hydro alcoholic extract of the fruit (capsule shell) of Zanthoxylum
Bungeanum Maxim. This herb has been used since ancient times as a
pungent and mouth numbing spice. Its medicinal uses include the treatment
of internal parasites, stomachaches, abdominal pain, toothache, eczema,
itching, and as an antimycotic and local anesthetic. It contains a
volatile oil, lingams, alkaloids, fatty acids, coumarins and alkamides,
among others. Its numbing and local anesthetic effects are reported
to be due to the alkamides (a, B, y-sanshool and hydroxyl-a-sanshool,
ect). |
